What is Yoga Nidra?

Yoga Nidra is a guided practice of conscious rest. Unlike ordinary sleep, where awareness fades, Yoga Nidra invites the body into deep relaxation while the mind remains quietly aware. Often referred to as non-sleep deep rest, it offers a space where real restoration can happen.

In this state, the nervous system begins to shift out of stress and into repair. The body unwinds, the mind softens, and rest becomes something deeper than simply falling asleep.

Our Approach

At Sukha Yoga School, we see Yoga Nidra as more than a relaxation technique. It is a practice of returning to stillness, awareness, and the deeper layers of being that exist beneath constant activity and noise.

Each practice is designed to guide you inward gradually, without pressure or performance. There is nothing to force and nothing to achieve here. The invitation is simply to settle, soften, and allow.

With consistent practice, Yoga Nidra may support:

  • nervous system regulation

  • deep physical and mental rest

  • reduced stress and tension

  • improved sleep quality

  • emotional balance

  • greater clarity and inner steadiness

More than anything, Yoga Nidra offers an experience many people have forgotten: how it feels to truly rest.

A Brief Background

Yoga Nidra has roots in traditional yogic practices and was later systematized in a modern form by teachers such as Swami Satyananda Saraswati. While its origins are ancient, its relevance is very present. Today, similar states are also being explored through the language of neuroscience and non-sleep deep rest, confirming what practitioners have long understood: when the right conditions are created, the body and mind know how to restore.

If a practice resonates with you, we’d love for you to like the video, leave a comment, and subscribe on YouTube. Your support helps more people discover these practices and helps us continue creating and sharing them.
